We’ll Be Running the Waves / «Θα Τρέχουμε τα Κύματα»
Nautical Club of Andros
As part of the program “The Walls That Speak”, we created the mural “We’ll Be Running the Waves” / «Θα Τρέχουμε τα Κύματα» at the entrance of the historic boathouse (Neosoikoi) of the Nautical Club of Andros. A site with both historical and everyday importance was transformed into a surface of storytelling, symbols, and color.
The mural is inspired by the poem “The Waves” by Andreas Embirikos, and explores Andros’ deep and enduring connection to the sea — not only as a natural element, but as collective memory, motion, orientation, and identity.
Visually, it draws on elements from De Stijl and Bauhaus, with clean geometries and bold colors reminiscent of the light and depth of the Aegean.
* On the left gate, a sailing boat is ready to set off toward new horizons.
* On the right, the iconic Tourlitis Lighthouse, the enduring Lower Castle (Kato Kastro), and a compass pointing to the true north: memory and the sea.
Two gates, one continuous narrative.
Like waves crossing time, the artwork connects past and present in a constant flow.
A visual journey through light, wind, and the soul of the island.
“…The waves will be running,
I will be running with the waves,
We’ll be running the waves,
No matter what harbors lie ahead.”
— Andreas Embirikos
We sincerely thank the Nautical Club of Andros for hosting the mural and for their trust, as well as the Anaptixiaki Etaireia Kykladon for their support and coordination of this initiative, as part of the “The Walls That Speak” program.
